I had this problem last year also! My horse came down with a cough and it went into a snotty nose, my vet started him on penicillin for about two weeks, he had the cough for about 4-6 months but wasen't so bad he stopped eating and was feeling ok to ride. Now this year same thing starting off with a cough and now a slight yellow discharge from his nose, and his hocks are swollen, after he is out in pasture for awhile they go down. Now his trainer said to just let him alone and it should run it's course, but if it's still not getting better in two weeks give him (tucaprin) (2ca prin)not for sure about the spelling but that's what it sounds out to be. I don't like to give a horse penicillin unless I really have no choice. Any Ideas out their with what he my be going threw??? Allerigies Confused Has any one heard of this tucaprin? it's a powder you sprinkle on the feed.

My horses used to get the runny nose and cough every spring early summer when I was feeding them oat hay. I quit feeding oat hay about three years ago and none of them have the symptoms any longer.
