Will the Fun Ever Stop
by Yvonne McGregor2001 Journal
I have had a lot a fun this past week. I took 11 days off of work and I rode 9 of those days. My vacation started September 8, which was a Saturday. Leslie and I rode for 7 hours. We put the horses in a trailer with their protective leg wraps and drove about 30 minutes to the national forest. We then took a trail which took us to the Slate Mountain lookout. What a nice view. The Star fire left heavy smoke in the air, but still it was a nice view. Greyboy did wonderful. He is turning out to be a truly reliable mount and very willing to go forward. We came across a chow dog, (named red dog), Leslie’s mount, Lightening; about jumped out of his skin. The dog came down from the top of the hill. The owner, yelling and screaming at the dog. Lightening came unglued. Greyboy started to jump, but I reminded him with the rein to stand his ground and he did. What a good boy. We saw bear tracks on our way up the mountain.
Sunday September 9, we trailered our horses over to Cool and rode the 10 mile loop. This little ride meets up with the Western States Trail. You can ride to Auburn from this trail which is only 10 miles a way. I will need to go back to this trail and try some of those rides. Sunday we rode for 4 hours.
Monday I found out that there was a missing person up in my area, which is Mosquito as the district is called. So I rode my other horse Bailey bareback and took a short ride into the woods to try and help locate the missing person.
On Wednesday I rode Greyboy looking for the missing person. My daughter and I rode out to the national forest and rode about 4 hours. I also did this on Thursday. Search and Rescue called off
the search on Thursday. The lady had been missing since Sunday. She is a person that has dementia and we are unable to locate her.
Tuesday September 11, a tragic day. I took English riding lessons. My first one, Nothing like riding for two years before having a lesson. In this lesson I learned how to post a trot.
I have lots of photos on my picture page. Photos of me and my Greyboy out on our long rides. Poor boy is losing weight.
Endurance riding is something that I like doing. Sure hurts the old hips. Will need to take some aspirin and Glucosamine. If you have an adventure that you would like posted, please submit it to webmaster@horsebuddies.com
