First Registered Donkey
by Lisa FergusonDiamond Creek Major (ND0001) :
When Tim Doud of Diamond Creek Ranch, Cody, Wyoming decided to start raising his own good mules, it was important to him to know the breeding and background of the jack that he chose as the sire. And when he finally found the jack he wanted, he researched the jack’s parentage back four generations. Registration with ADMS, AMJR and NASMA allows Tim and other interested breeders to have a record of what each jack and line is producing.
Diamond Creek Major was the first donkey registered with NASMA (ND0001) and is an excellent representative of a quality donkey, both as a breeding animal and as a using animal. He was chosen Grand Champion in 1998 and 1999 at the Denver National Western Stock Show. Tim enjoys using him in the mountains for their outfitting and packing business and says “Everybody loves him, he is real affectionate and loves people.” His oldest mule colts are two year olds this year and are just the type that Tim was hoping for. Another successful breeding season has already started for Major, with the addition of quite a few outside mares booked .
An excellent representative of a quality donkey, Diamond Creek Major is an enjoyable trail animal in addition to his success in the show-ring and as a sire of good mules.
